The Missouri River has been fishing great the past few days. We have had some rain, overcast, cooler temps, and lots of happy trout. Which in the end makes a bunch of happy anglers. Flows this morning are just over 3,000 cfs. Water temps are at 52. Weather forecast is looking good for the next few days. Some clouds with a little rain here and there.

Dry fly fishing has been awesome in the afternoon. Pseudos with some BWO’s. Hatch is getting going around 1 p.m. Fish are rising everywhere. There isn’t a bad float right now. Small dry flies are getting some fish, they are taking bigger parachutes as well. The biggest trick is not spooking the fish and getting a good presentation.

Nymphing is hot. Red hot. “Aquatic terrestrials” a.k.a. worms, scuds, and sow bugs are working quite well. Don’t forget the smaller stuff. PT’s, Lightning Bugs, WD-40’s, and such. Deeper nymphing is not as productive as a shallow rig that is on the lighter side.

Streamers are great. Some big fish are taking the streamer. Late in the evening is showing the most success. It can be a little slower during the day, but it’s still worth a shot if you’re looking for the tug. Get out there with some Wooly Buggers of the darker type.
