Missouri River Fly Fishing Report
“Bro, ’!”
Current Flows: 4,400
Weather Forecast: Saturday — Sunny, Low 80s Sunday — Sunny, High 70s
Hatch Report: PMD, Caddis
The Missouri River’s bug activity has dramatically increased. Last Sunday, I floated the canyon and there were caddis constantly hatching from mid morning all the way to early afternoon. Flows are stabilizing and the PMDs are out as you get closer to the dam. What a time to be alive! It seems like every day, our guides are sending me pictures of huge browns they’ve plucked from the river. We’re later in the season so don’t forget for PMD dry fly fishing, you need to be at size #18 now. The trout have smartened up and know what they want. The Mighty Mo’ is showing off right now, so make sure you get out there! (Side note, we have some really cool new swag at the shop. From hats, to hoodies to anything you want, go grab some official CrossCurrents gear at our Helena or Craig shop.)
Nymphing: Zebra Midge, Spanish Bullet, Tailwater Sow, Psycho May, Split Case BWO, Hairs Ear, Blooms Weight Fly, Duracell
“Nymphing is very good. Most people going deep in the morning with PMD and sowbug stuff then short leash in the afternoon.” –Micah Fields
Dry Flies: Hi-Vis Rusty Spinner, Hi-Viz PMD Spinner, D&D PMD Cripple, Parachute PMD, Cornfed Caddis, Missing Link, Double Duck Caddis
“Dry fly fishing is great! You gotta find the bug of the hour and mix up the code. PMD cripples, emergers, spinners and spent caddis…” — Micah Fields
Streamers: Lil’ Kim, Game Changer, JJ Special, Sparkle Minnows, Flash Fry Zonker, Kreelex, Docs Articulator, Sparkle Yummy
“Streamers are a hit or miss. Cloud cover helps, as does switching up colors to find the right ticket. I like black, white, and olive, not necessarily in that order.” — Micah Fields
