Flows this morning at Holter Dam are 8,980 cfs. Water temps are rising into the upper 40’s. The sunny weather yesterday seemed to slow fishing up. Some more bright skies this morning, but clouds are in the forecast for later today and the rest of the week. Overall fishing has gotten better as we head into the later days of our spring season. BWO’s are out in full force, March Brown’s are being spotted in the lower river. Caddis are just around the corner. Lots of guide boats out on the river during the week. Fishing here is good, better than the rest of the state. 

Dry fly fishing has still been a little on the slower side. Some anglers have been throwing March Browns down in the canyon with success. Not big success, but there is some hope with the dry fly. #16 Purple Haze, Parachute Adams, and Kory’s March Brown are all good choices.

Nymphing has been really good on the river lately. We are still fishing the scuds, sow bugs, worms, and Czech stuff. That is all working as well as the fire beads. Fish are starting to pick up on PT’s and other mayfly type bugs in the lower river. This is a good sign as we make our way through May.

Streamers are doing great out on the river. No longer are you out there stripping away with only a tug or two during the day. Over the weekend with the cloud cover the streamer action was red hot. JJ specials, darker colors are good, and the flashy stuff. Yesterday and today with the sun blaring down it is probably better to stay away from the streamer. However, it never hurts to give it a try.
