Employment Opportunities
So, You Want to Work in a Fly Shop in Montana?
Craig, Montana, is a true trout town with fly shops, a restaurant, a bar, a taphouse/brewery and only 30 full-time residents. If your ideal day is running shuttles, launching drift boats, loading rafts, talking fishing flies and techniques with customers and fly fishing when you’re not working, you may be a good fit. CrossCurrents Fly Shop has been around since 1994 in Helena and in Craig since 2001. We work hard to provide our customers with exceptional service and the best river knowledge while endeavoring to be the friendliest fly shop in Craig. Our shop is open 12-14 hours a day, 7-days a week from late March-October. We hire individuals who are passionate and knowledgable about fly fishing and work well in a team-oriented environment. We require employees to have outgoing personalities, to possess a strong work ethic, are honest, dependable, self-motivated, and pay utmost attention to detail to their work, taking pride in everything that they do. Crew Members must be able to work in a fast-paced environment using good time management skills and cooperate easily with others as a team player. All of our staff positions have high customer exposure. We require our crew to present themselves in a Professional Manner and Represent Our Brand at all times, on and off the clock.
Our Mission at CrossCurrents Fly Shop is a dedication to serving our Customers by providing the best possible knowledge, equipment and opportunities by using our collective experience and passion for fly fishing and the outdoors, to help make your fishing adventures amazingly memorable. We also strive to further fly fishing and the habitats we enjoy to future generations and hopefully inspire others to do the same. We aim to honor God by honoring our Customers, Staff and Community.
Our Core Values here at CrossCurrents can be summed up as: 1- Service of others, 2- Friendly enthusiasm, 3- High Integrity, 4- Good Communication, 5- Attention to details.
We hire people that have a passion for this sport, possess good, moral character and agree with our Mission and Core Values. We are far more concerned with your character than your knowledge of all things Missouri River or even fly fishing. Our Management and Senior Staff are happy to teach you that knowledge. Think of being a Luke to our Yodas -or a Daniel LaRusso to Mr. Miyagi -or a Peter Parker to Tony Stark. I hope you get the point. We seek passionate fly anglers who are hungry to learn and love to help people.
Our Fly Shop Crew Member opportunities are a multi-role/multi-task positions. There will be days when you can focus entirely on just your primary duties, but there will also be days when you will have to take on every role we have at CCFS. We are a team here at CCFS, so helping each other whenever possible, is a must.
We offer the only Guide Apprentice Program on the Missouri and Blackfoot Rivers. It’s a 3 year commitment (2 in the shop, 1 split shop/guiding) but once completed, you will be very well trained as a professional Guide with the respect of many of the top Guides and Outfitters in the region. Most of the best Guides on the Missouri River have gone trough our program and have the most repeat customer requests filling up their calendars every year! This program allows you to get paid as you learn, train and do, as opposed to paying thousands for a Guide School. (However, we highly respect and recommend attending a Guide School as well. In fact, many of our Guide Apprentices have come to CCFS after attending a Guide School.). Ask Chris or Ben about this program and we can even refer you to some of the now, full-time Guides that are CCFS alumni. Guiding is a fun and rewarding career that lets you make a hobby into a vocation that will have you meeting many interesting people from all around the world and make memories with and for those Clients that will last a lifetime!
We have a zero tolerance for stealing, drugs and alcohol abuse. Theft and drug and alcohol abuse will not be tolerated, and will be subject to immediate termination. (Shuttling other peoples vehicles carries a high level of responsibility, as such, if there is any accident we do require alcohol/drug testing by all employees filing a worker’s compensation claim.)
