Y’know, I can remember a conversation I had earlier this month when there was a serious debate about whether the river would ever go over 7000 cfs. Hindsight is 20/20 (or at least 9,800). Our flows are quite high for this time of year, and with more rain on the way this weekend it seems.. read more →
After a week of moderate rain and a spike in output from the powers that be at Holter Dam, the Mo’ is on the drop and shaping up to fish nicely as we enter the heart/heat of June. Deep nymphing is rock-solid (as per usual for the high water of June). PMDs and caddis are.. read more →
Well, I was left unsupervised in the shop for about an hour today. Enjoy the crossword puzzle. Fishing has been good and should only get better as we get into the week ahead. Dearborn float season is waning, but the rain may give us a few more days. Answers Down: 1. Wire, 2. Stabilize, 3… read more →
We are really enjoying the atypically low flows right now. With the MO at around 4900 cfs (normally around 5800), the dry fly bite has been picking up significantly, and the cloudy days of late have resulted in some banner sessions. Weather dictates how many fish will be up, but a few devoted anglers are.. read more →
The chillier weather has heated up the action on the MO. We’ve seen some classic spring weather here the last few days, and it has corresponded with more bugs, more risers, and more tight lines. The flows are declining slowly, with runoff looming in the distance. The MO is currently running at 4880 CFS. Cool.. read more →
May has brought us more bugs, more people out and about on the water, and more muddy water out of the Dearborn River. The overall picture of the MO right now is one of a river in transition. The fish are eating pink sows and winter bugs off and on, Baetis off and on, and.. read more →
The fishing out here on the Missouri has responded well to the interlude of autumn weather we’ve had. In standard Montana fashion, we’ve seen 3 seasons within the last 7 days. We are excited for the week ahead though, as mother nature seems to be giving us a respite from brutal cold. Expect highs in.. read more →
Yet again, we’ve had an early shot of winter. The roads have largely been plowed clear as of this writing, but use caution tomorrow- the mercury here is dropping into the single digits tonight. The ramps are usable (sort of). A quick rundown of where you can/can’t put in in the upper river: Dam- eh,.. read more →
Looking outside, I’m not really sure if it’s late September or late December. The boat ramps here are unsurprisingly empty, and it seems like Craig is taking a two-day nap during the snow storm. Boat traffic has been on the lighter side this week with heavy winds giving way to the snowfall. We’re expecting a.. read more →
The ol’ MO has been a bit mercurial of late, but we’re still catching big fish. The river seems to be in what I call the “almost” phase. Streamer fishing? It’s almost getting going. Fall Baetis hatches? We’re almost there. That being said, the Tricos and Pseudos are alternatively entertaining/frustrating to fish to. Big.. read more →
