Missouri River Fly Fishing Report

“Early bird is going to get the fish.”

Current Flows: 4,200
Weather Forecast: Low 80s & Partly Cloudy
Hatch Report: Tricos, Caddis, Hoppers, Psuedos

It’s my favorite season — ZIRDLE SZN! Nymphing with what is a basically a streamer with a well planned dropper is phenomenal. The other great thing about it is the trout set themselves on the Zirdle. So if you’re having a hard time waking up in the morning and paying attention to your strike indicator, the zirdle season is a perfect way to have a nice slow summer morning.

Nymphing: Frenchie, Military May, Blooms Weight Fly, Warrior Perdigon, Green Machine, Lightning Bug, Case Caddis, Tungsten Dart

The cold front helped out a lot with cooling things down. Water temps didn’t drop dramatically but it dropped enough to increase the productivity of the fishing. Zirdle with the dropper is the game. Go with a Zirdle and a Frenchie.

Dry FliesCorn Fed Caddis, Double Duck, Hi-Vis Rusty Spinner, Cluster Midge, Hi-Vis Trico, Harrops Palmered Tan Caddis, Translucent Caddis, Missing Link Caddis, CDC Caddis Tan, Purple Crazy

Trico spinners, caddis, terrestrial and psuedos are the bugs on the Missouri right now. 12 foot 5x leader in the morning and then for the afternoon 7.5 foot 2x leader for the hopper and then drop a nymph off the back.

Streamers: Cravens Swim Coach, Lil’ Kim, Sparkle Minnow, Gold/Silver Kreelex, Chockletts Game Changer, JJ Special, Galloups Butt Monkey, Thin Mint Bugger, Skiddish Smolt, Zirdle

Streamer fishing is working. A few guys have been productive.
