Missouri River Fly Fishing Report

“Be patient, BWOs are near.”

Current Flows: 3,800+

Weather Forecast: 70s & 80s during the week, In the upper 80s on Wednesday

Hatch Report: Few Tricos, Few Caddis, Psuedos, Soon to be Baetis

We’re mostly nymphing because we’re in between hatches. Girdle still significant but a lot of us have switched over to wooly buggers. Top fly is the wooly bugger (thin mints have been our best seller), trout sees the bugger, chases it and then finds the bottom nymph or strikes the top. Forecast shows high 80s on Wednesday so that will postpone our Fall BWOs. Probably another week and they’ll start showing up. Listen, this is my favorite time to fish. During the Fall, the crowds are less and the weeds are almost gone. Football, Fishing and Family is really all I need.

Nymphing: Wooly Bugger, Zirdle, Frenchie, Sow Bug, Military May, Blooms Weight Fly, Warrior Perdigon, Green Machine, Lightning Bug, Case Caddis, Tungsten Dart

Switch up to a wooly bugger or do a double nymph. Since we’re in between hatches sow bug on top to a baetis nymph or jig on bottom. Perdigon warrior is still the top bug.

Dry Flies: October Caddis, Corn Fed Caddis, Double Duck, Hi-Vis Rusty Spinner, Cluster Midge, Hi-Vis Trico, Harrops Palmered Tan Caddis, Translucent Caddis, Missing Link Caddis, CDC Caddis Tan, Purple Crazy

(If you’re looking to dry fly fish, wait a couple weeks)

Streamers: Cravens Swim Coach, Lil’ Kim, Sparkle Minnow, Gold/Silver Kreelex, Chockletts Game Changer, JJ Special, Galloups Butt Monkey, Thin Mint Bugger, Skiddish Smolt, Zirdle

For those that can handle the weeds, streamers are great. Big fish are being caught.
