This is the Ultimate, Air-Lock Nymphing Butt Section Leader Rig.

Super easy to set up and use and very quick to adjust your depth -and your leader will never kink!  Our Customers love these things.  Makes nymphing more fun and productive.  Does’t trash a good leader for your nymphing set up -you just need to add tippet.  If you tangle beyond recovery…no problem, just cut off the tangled tippet and add more. You will save money using this rig. This leader will also last a very long time as you should be able to keep this butt section for several seasons and just keep replacing the tippet section as needed.

3.5′ Butt Section is easy to attach to your fly line -loop to loop, like other leaders.  It has an Air-Lock Strike Indicator on a 20# butt section.  There’s a tiny, 40 pound test swivel or tippet ring on the terminal end to attach your tippet to it. You’ll never trash another leader again with a strike indicator.  You can adjust how deep you need to go by the length of tippet you attach to the swivel but the beauty of this rig is how quickly and easily you can change your depth when you are fishing.  Just slide the Air-Lock up or down the butt section and you can adjust your depth by 3.5′ in seconds. And, never have your leader get kinked.

TIP- Use the 1/2″ for smaller nymphs in shallower water or in “short leashing” nymphs to fish feeding on emerging nymphs or drowned spinners.   The 3/4″ bobber is the most common size we use and is a great, all around size for most of your nymphing needs.   Use the 1″ size for freestone streams when you’re fishing in heavier water or with a larger fly like stoneflies.  We also use these on the MO when we have runoff and have to fish more than 7′ deep by using heavy flies and/or heavier Split Shot.  Of course, you can just get the 3-Size Combo pack and have the ability to easily switch the indicator size to suit your fishing situation!

CrossCurrents Fly Shop makes these Nymph Leader Rigs here in our stores.  We include a detailed, colored graphic explaining how to set up this rig and a sweet, CCFS sticker.  You can easily attach and remove this entire system from your fly line if you want to switch to other styles of fishing with the loop-to-loop connection.  This leader rig should last you multiple seasons.

You can also just buy a 3-pack of the biodegradable foam Air-Lock Strike Indicator and use them on your regular leaders. (But they tend to slip easier on a tapered leader compared to our Nymph Rig system.)
