Next to the Parachute Adams, this Hi-Vis CDC Rusty Spinner is our number dry fly pattern we sell -and fish ourselves! This is a must-have for the MO -and just about any other river where you have Mayflies (especially, PMD’s). Many Mayfly species turn rusty in color when they transition to the Spinner stage from the Dun. This pattern is crazy effective and a great choice when you see noses showing but don’t know exactly what they are eating. It has a Hi-Viz parachute post that makes seeing a #20 a reality. It has CDC wrapped around the post for amazingly lifelike look and “movement” and float ability and a light wrap of dry fly saddle hackle to help “support” the CDC and add a lot more durability to the fly. When you dunk this dude in our liquid Jet Fuel Floatant, you will have a dry fly that will perform superlatively well, be visible to you and be irresistible to the trout! (Don’t use “gel” type floatants on CDC flies -only our Jet Fuel or powders.) Our most popular size is #18 but we fish them from #14 to #20. (We also have this same fly pattern in PMD, Trico and BWO colorations.) If you plan on fishing the Missouri River anytime between late April to early October, then I would stock up on this pattern in all three sizes.
