The legendary Superfine Orvis Henry’s Fork rod was an 8’6″ 5-weight. It offers a versatile length that’s at home on large or small water, a line weight that allows for the enjoyment of small trout and yet can handle large trout and light bass with ease. Whether you’re looking for versatility, a daily driver that hangs rigged and ready on the wall, or the one and only fly rod you own, the Clearwater 865-4 fills the wallet-friendly bill.

The new Clearwater® Rod Series is not just a cosmetic facelift, but a complete overhaul from the ground up by our Vermont rod designers. Everything has changed except the value. It’s still the best fly rod you can buy for the money, but with a significant upgrade in performance and looks in a comprehensive series that covers every angler from small stream addicts to Skagit slinging two-handers. Shop Staff Notes:  The Orvis Clearwater 8’6″ 5-Weight Fly Rod is one of our best selling fly rod configurations and one of the most versatile.  We sell the 8’6″ 5-wt to lots of folks just starting out in fly fishing as well as experienced fly anglers who want a great performing fly rod but don’t have a lot of money to invest in a new rod. You get a lot of bang for your buck with these new Clearwater Rods.  You do get more casting and fishing performance and American-made craftsmanship when you bump in price and go for a Recon 865-4 and certainly to a Helios 3F 865-4.  But if your budget keeps you under $200, the Clearwater is an excellent choice.

We have made up 9 different UPGRADED Rod Outfit Packages to give you some options based on our recommendations.  We strongly recommend at least upgrading from the Clearwater Fly Line.  That line is good but upgrading to the Orvis Hydros or SA Mastery and especially the Textured lines are well worth it -they cast better, float better and will last longer.  We also include 2 Outfits with the reel upgraded to the popular Battenkill Disc Mid-Arbor Reel or the sweet, new Hydros Large Arbor Reel.
