Shop Staff Notes:  The new, Orvis HELIOS D 9’5″ 5-weight Fly Rod follows in the success and popularity of its predecessor, the Blackout 955-4.  The extra length is just enough to give you super distance, and mending line control without making the swing weight feel heavy.  (Sometimes 10′ rods can feel heavy over the course of a few hours.) This rod is an excellent choice for nymphing -both while your waist deep wading and out of a boat.  The 955 is a popular choice for several of our Guides because it is such an effective tool for fishing from a boat -but still easily fits in the rod holders in the boats and on the vehicle rod racks. You’ll see this model a lot on the Missouri below Holter and in the LOG (as well as many other waters).
