In an industry-first collaborative effort with Michelin, Orvis introduces the PRO Wading Boot. Built on an outsole compound specifically designed for fly fishing, this revolutionary new sole design is an industry disrupting advance in wet rubber traction. The Michelin Outdoor Extreme outsole offers 25% better abrasion resistance and a resounding 43% improvement in wet rubber traction. Using Michelin tire geometry, it offers a wider footprint for stability, a higher ratio of surface contact, and a lug pattern that reduces shock and improves pressure distribution. The two-layer midsole has a co-molded ESS plate that provides improved stud retention and torsional stability. The shock absorbing Phylon midsole improves “river feel” and compresses less than standard EVA midsoles. Orvis partnered with Ortholite to create a 3D molded X25 insole designed for high-impact sports, delivering maximum comfort and arch support. An industry first cast PU upper eliminates seams while providing a zoned cage for added stability, grip, and extreme abrasion resistance without the added bulk. The boot is higher cut for ankle support and lined with closed-cell foam. Scratch rubber at the toe cap and heel for abrasion resistance, an oversized heel pull for easier on-and-off, and tightly woven laces reduce broken laces. Imported.
Men’s whole sizes 7-14 (Women’s equivalent sizes 8-15. Women, order down one size. Ex: Women’s size 8 order size 7.)

Optional PosiGrip Screw-In Studs: Aggressive tungsten-carbide tipped screw-in studs that can be added to any wading boot with at least ½” of mid-sole depth. Sharp tip allows for quick and easy installation into felt or rubber out-soles. A must where maximum traction is needed. ¼” hex head screws. Adapter for power drill included. 24 studs per pack. Made in USA.

Shop Staff Notes We thought the Orvis Boa Pivot Wading Boot is the best wader boot Orvis has made to date -but in Winter 2019, they came out with the Orvis PRO Wading Boot and went a few steps ahead of the Pivot!  We love the BOA Lacing systems but we will go back to tying laces for the extreme comfort of the PRO’s footbed and upper and the grippyness of the Michelin rubber sole!  This boot also drains and dries very quickly which is nice for getting in and out of a drift boat (draining) and for traveling (quick drying).  Although these boots make adding Studs to the soles super easy, we haven’t had to do that yet but we can see the benefit if one wades river like the Madison or Rock Creek or are a little more unstable on your feet and need that extra traction that only studs can provide.  On the Missouri and going in rafts on the Smith and Blackfoot, studs are not necessary.  The size is not very wide so people with wide or high volume feet may feel a little snug in these but you owe it to yourself to try a pair of these on before deciding on another pair. Bottom line with this boot, you will love it’s comfort, fit and grip.

These match perfectly with the new, Orvis Men’s PRO Waders. -Just sayin’!

Even when you use non-felt soles, you need to be aware of Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) aka Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS). Please INSPECT. CLEAN, DRY all your wading gear.  Here are some resources about ANS:  MT FWP AISANS Task ForceUSDA AISWhirling Disease Info from TUClean Angling.
