RIO’S EURO NYMPH SHORTY is an ultra-thin, super-sensitive fly line designed for Euro nymphing. The line is deliberately made short (20 feet) so it can be added to the front end of a regular fly line utilizing the thin welded loop on each end. The idea is that anglers can fish their normal fly fishing style with their regular trout line, and when they come to a run they want to fish Euro nymph style, they simply loop the Shorty on and start nymphing. Quick, easy and no need for an extra rod or reel.

The line is built on a thin diameter, supple core to maximize sensitivity and allow for lightning fast hook sets, while a highly visible tip helps anglers detect the slightest of strikes. This line is designed specifically for European style nymphing techniques, such as “French”, “Czech”, “Polish” and “Spanish” styles.

Shop Staff Notes: As the Mayflower brought pilgrims across the pond, so too, new techniques of nymphing have arrived from Europe. (Though Joe Humphries may say otherwise.) Those European nymphing techniques are fun and super effective at catching fish, even when it seems like fish just aren’t eating. It’s essentially a type of tight-line nymphing utilizing specialized rods, lines, leaders and even flies. In many parts of the US, Euronymphing is becoming the most popular way to fish as it lends itself well to certain types of waters and conditions. This Add-On Line is a super simple way to turn even your 9′ rod with a standard fly line on it into a Euro Nymph rig! On the MO it does work great but due it’s size and that we often nymph from a moving boat, you’ll never seem to get away from the bobber. But if you like to wade and fish wishin 1-2 rod lengths away, it’s crazy effective on the MO (as well as the Blackfoot and Smith and all our small streams)!
