For years, the gold standard in the Scientific Anglers lineup was the GPX taper. From tossing small dries to slinging huge streamers, the GPX could do it all. But all good things must come to an end. Built a half-size heavy, the Scientific Anglers Mastery MPX Fly Line taper starts where the GPX left off. Redesigned with more mass toward the front of the head, the MPX provides the same benefits of the GPX, with an added emphasis on presentation. The power is still there, only with an added bit of finesse. Meet your new best friend and the best all-around fly line we’ve ever made.

Shop Staff Notes:  We often get the question of which line should I buy- the MPX or the Trout?  We answer that by asking the customer a few questions as well.  Are you a DFO (Dry Fly Only) angler? Do you fish no matter what the wind situation is like? Do you mostly fish smaller flies? How experienced a fly caster are you?  These are all important because they help us help you pick the right fly line. If you mostly fish dries, small dries to spooky trout and head home when the wind kicks in because you are not a powerful caster, than the Trout taper is perfect.  But if you fish all types of flies and sizes and would fish in a hurricane if you had to or you’re new to fly fishing and your cast is not that perfect yet, than the Scientific Anglers Mastery MPX Fly Line would be the best choice. Both are good choices but we do sell far more MPX tapers because they have more versatility.

Info on the SA Technologies in this line:
–AST:  Scientific Anglers’ patented dry-slick technology provides continual line slickness, allowing the line to shoot farther as it moves through the guides. Lines with AST easily shed dirt, algae, and other parasitic drag particles, allowing lines to cast farther, float higher, and stay cleaner than traditional lines.
-ST+ Additive:  Much like our patented Advanced Shooting Technology, the ST+ is an integrated slickness additive built into the coatings of our fly lines, providing continual line slickness as the coating continues to wear. The ST+ additive enhances the slickness of fly lines even more than AST, and lines with ST+ shoot farther and float higher than any lines ever have before.
–Welded Loops:  Exceptionally slick and strong, our Welded Loops produce smoother casts and easier turnover with a seamless fly-line-to-loop transition, making for softer landings and cleaner pickups. The sleek design also maintains buoyancy for improved fly-line flotation and enables quicker connections between fly line and leaders or Versileaders, or fly line and backing.
-SA ID:  Meet the Scientific Anglers Line Identification System. SA•ID is an innovative line-marking system allowing you to identify your lines at a glance. Wonder if a shooting head is 200 grain or a 300 or is that the Mirage LT Reel with the 5 weight or 6 weight line? Just look at the SA•ID.
