The Zirdle is a Guide favorite because it’s a trout favorite.  We think the fish eat it as a crayfish but we really don’t know what they think -we just know they eat this creature of a bug!  It gets its name from a Girdle Bug body with a Zonker strip on top – thus the name, Zirdle. It’s a wiggly, wavy thing in the water and in the riffles, the fish really attack it. When fishing it in slower water, we do a lot of mending to get it to twitch.  They don’t sink fast so a split shot is often a must about a foot above the Zirdle to get it down to the fish but not sinking too quickly is one of this key features.  They come in two sizes, the bigger, size 6, which is the most common size we sell for using under an indicator and they come in a size 12, or the Baby Zirdle.  We will nymph this one as well but they are great under a Hopper in the summer or a Chubby.  We use this pattern on the MO, the Blackfoot and the Smith.  I bet it will work on your local water and I would sling them for Bass as well!

TIP #1- Fish this on heavier tippet to prevent getting broke off from the violent strikes.  2X on the MO, 1X on the Blackfoot or Smith.
TIP #2- Tie this on with a Non-Slip Mono Loop Knot which will give it a lot more drift wiggle freedom and have a more natural presentation when using these stouter tippets.

Note- There may be slight variations from the photos as we have several tiers and slight differences in dye batches in the materials. But not to worry, all of them are fish catching morsels!  Also, not all colors are available in all sizes.
