The Clearwater 6-Weight 9’6″ Fly Rod is a superior boat or beach rod for both fresh and saltwater. In the front of a drift boat, the extra length allows for extended reach and superior mending capability to cover more water and keep dry-fly and dropper rig drifts going for extended periods of time. On the beach for schoolie stripers or sitting in a kayak for smallies, the extra length helps in keeping backcasts out of the water or off the beach. Shop Staff Notes: The new Orvis Clearwater 9’6″ 6-Weight Fly Rod is rod that has plenty of power to turn over big dries, nymph rigs and streamer when the wind is blowing on the MO or Blackfoot or the Smith or anywhere else for that matter. This rod, with it’s fighting butt and extra oomph can even handle light saltwater fishing (smaller Bonefish, Sea Trout, smaller inshore species and more). At CrossCurrents Fly Shop we do sell a lot of 9.5′ 6-weight rods but mostly in the Recon and Helios 3 series. We used to not carry this rod configuration in the Clearwater series but after moving so many mid and high end rods, we though it would be smart to offer this practical fishing tool for folks that don’t want to spend $450 or $900 on a rod. You get a lot of bang for your buck with this new Clearwater rod series. You do get more casting and fishing performance and American-made craftsmanship when you bump in price and go for a Recon and certainly to a Helios 3F. But if your budget keeps you under $250, the Clearwater is an excellent choice.
We have made up 9 different UPGRADED Rod Outfit Packages to give you some options based on our recommendations. We strongly recommend at least upgrading from the Clearwater Fly Line. That Clearwater line is good but upgrading to the Orvis Hydros or Scientific Anglers Mastery series and especially upgrading to the Textured lines (Amplitude, Trout Pro) are well worth it -they cast better, float better and will last longer. We also include 2 Outfits with the reel upgraded to the popular Battenkill Disc Mid-Arbor Reel or Hydros Large Arbor Reel.
