The Clearwater 5-Weight 9′ Fly Rod is a standard for western rivers and bigger eastern water. Not only does it have the length to reach out and control drifts and the power to reach far banks, but the line weight to handle big trout and light bass. Firing a big streamer up and across a big river and reaching out to mend the line and control the drift is right in this rod’s wheelhouse. Throwing big attractors with droppers, or big hoppers in the early fall is the perfect task for this rod. If big water and big flies are called for, then the Clearwater 905-4 is the weapon of choice at a price that will keep a lot of travel money in your pocket.

The new Clearwater® Rod Series is not just a cosmetic facelift, but a complete overhaul from the ground up by our Vermont rod designers. Everything has changed except the value. It’s still the best fly rod you can buy for the money, but with a significant upgrade in performance and looks in a comprehensive series that covers every angler from small stream addicts to Skagit slinging two-handers. Each rod was designed with a purpose-built profile and action to handle the kind of fishing the rod model would be traditionally used for, from medium-action small stream rods to medium-fast freshwater rods and fast-action big game rods.  Designed in Manchester, VT. Shop Staff Notes:  The Orvis Clearwater 9′ 5-Weight Fly Rod model is one of our best selling fly rods -and know the NEW Clearwater model will be our top seller as well.  We sell the Clearwater 9′ 5-weight rods to lots of folks just starting out in fly fishing as well as experienced fly anglers who want a great performing fly rod but don’t have a lot of money to invest in a new rod. You get a lot of bang for your buck with the Clearwater rod series.  You do get more casting and fishing performance and American-made craftsmanship when you bump in price and go for a Recon 905-4 and certainly to a Helios 3F 905-4 or Helios 3D 905-4.  But if your budget keeps you under $200, the Clearwater is an excellent choice.

We have made up 9 different UPGRADED Rod Outfit Packages to give you some options based on our recommendations.  We strongly recommend at least upgrading from the Clearwater Fly Line.  That line is good but upgrading to the SA Mastery or Amplitude or Orvis Hydros and especially the Textured lines are well worth it -they cast better, float better and will last longer.  We also include 2 Outfits with the reel upgraded to the popular Battenkill Disc Mid-Arbor Reel and the sweet, new Hydros Large Arbor Reel.
