The Clearwater 6-Weight 9′ Fly Rod is a stout trout and light bass fly rod that can handle big, heavy streamers, big hair poppers, dropper setups, and nymph rigs with ease. This is a great rod for pounding the banks from a drift boat or dropping poppers on the edge of lily pads. This is a must-have rod in Alaska for throwing mouse patterns and drifting egg patterns and flesh flies to big rainbows. The Clearwater 906-4 has the backbone to do the job and then some. There are times when conditions call for big flies to catch big fish and this rod is designed for just that.

The new Clearwater® Rod Series is not just a cosmetic facelift, but a complete overhaul from the ground up by our Vermont rod designers. Everything has changed except the value. Shop Staff Notes:  The original Orvis Clearwater 9′ 6-Weight Fly Rod was one of our best selling fly rods and we just know that this new updated Clearwater Rod is going to surpass it.  The 9′ 6wt is a great medium to big river rod (i.e. Blackfoot to Missouri).  The extra umph with the 6-weight allows it to cast easier in the wind and when tossing bigger bugs.  We sell this rod to lots of folks just starting out in fly fishing as well as experienced fly anglers who want a great performing fly rod but don’t have a lot of money to invest in a new rod. You get a lot of bang for your buck with the Clearwater rod series.  You do get more casting and fishing performance and American-made craftsmanship when you bump in price and go for a Recon 906-4 and certainly to a Helios 3F 906-4 or Helios 3D 906-4.  But if your budget keeps you under $200, the Clearwater is an excellent choice.

We have made up 4 different UPGRADED Rod Outfit Packages to give you some options based on our recommendations.  We strongly recommend at least upgrading from the Clearwater Fly Line.  That Clearwater line is good but upgrading to the Orvis Hydros or Scientific Anglers Mastery series and especially upgrading to the Textured lines (Amplitude, Trout Pro) are well worth it -they cast better, float better and will last longer.  We also include 2 Outfits with the reel upgraded to the popular Battenkill Disc Mid-Arbor Reel and 2 with the sweet, new Hydros Large Arbor Reel.
